[Verse 1]
Midnight
Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight, the withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan
[Verse 2]
Memory
All alone in the moonlight
I can dream of the old days
Life was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again
[Bridge]
Every streetlamp seems to beat
A fatalistic warning
Someone mutters and the street lamp sputters
And soon it will be morning
[Verse 3]
Daylight
I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
And I mustn't give in
When the dawn comes, tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin
d.: I need to call Cal.E. and see what she wants to talk about in today’s blog. (ring).
C.: (oh, no, it’s d.c., and I’ve been concentrating on my campaign speech since Meow Z. Tongue cleared me conditionally as a mentally sound candidate to run for Ruler of the Planet of the Talking Cats. That condition was that I not make any strange or unintelligible remarks in my campaign speeches, so this is going to be a lot of work…I know what to do, though…) Hi, d.c., do you have any ideas for today’s blog?
d.: I don’t, what about you?
C.: Well, why don’t you regale our audience with a story about your youth sports career?
d.: Just my youth sports career, not my adult one?
C.: Suit yourself. It’s up to you as to how much you want to reveal.
d.: I’ll start at the beginning and work my way up to the present.
It was the game of the year, no, the decade, or it could have been termed the game of the century....
C.: So, the last century wasn't very old, then, was it?
d.: Well...no, it was only.... it doesn't matter because the game was between the number one and the number two teams in the state in our classification and it drew that largest crowd ever for a school that size in my hometown on a second Friday night in October that started after six o’clock p.m…. or maybe it was the third Friday night in October, or the third, or maybe the fourth...But it was definitely in October (I think).
C.: How many schools in your hometown were in that classification, d.c.?
d.: Just one, but we were the second-ranked team in the state, and we were hosting the number one ranked team…
C.: I know that you’re from a state with a small population. So, how many schools were in that classification?
d.: I think it was eight, or it could have been ten…Maybe it was just six, but I remember every detail of the game well.
C.: Tell us about that game, d.c.
d.: What game?
C.: Well, why my partner tries to recall the “Game of the year, decade, and century," we’ll take a break until tomorrow, folks, where we’ll see you right here on Cal.E.’s Korner.
