d.: I will get back to the storyline tomorrow. Today, I want to address some of the issues in yesterday's post. First and foremost, I would like to state that I was not making an excuse for the evil that the furor of Germany was responsible for before and during World War Two by calling him insane.
When I was in nursing school, this individual was used as an example of an extreme narcissist, a mental health disorder. However, according to Goode (1998) in her article “Insane or Just Evil? A Psychiatrist Takes a Look at Hitler” on the New York Times website, she states that most medical professional agree that Adolph Hitler was sane and aware of what he was doing, sadly.
He also had some other psychological and medical problems, but none of them excuse his actions. In fact, most medical experts agree that people who are declared “mentally incompetent” are still aware of their actions. After working in four different Texas Correctional Facilities (i.e. prisons) for twelve years as a nurse, I’m inclined to agree.
I don’t believe people who commit heinous crimes have the same thought patterns that most people do, but that doesn't mean that they should be free to walk the streets with the rest of us and commit more crimes. In fact, some of the worst criminals are locked up in Ad Seg (solitary confinement) to keep them from committing acts of self-harm because they hate themselves. I believe that the furor suffered from self-hate as much as anything, but that still isn’t an excuse for genocide or performing experiments with innocent children and then killing the ones that are deemed unworthy of these experiments. The furor and his doctor, Josef Mengele, should have been punished to the most extreme degree possible.
Unfortunately, when the Soviets invaded German during World War Two, the furor and his wife/niece, Eva Braun committed suicide, and Mengele fled to South America and lived under an assumed name. He suffered a stroke and drowned in a swimming accident in 1979, thirty-four years after World War Two was over, according to the Holocaust Encyclopedia website (2024).
Cal.E. and I sometimes act silly to make a point, but there is nothing funny about this situation. Some of my family members are of Jewish descent, so the trip that my family and I made to the Holocaust Museum when we were in Washington this summer was disturbing as well as eye-opening.
I will return to the storyline tomorrow, where you can follow the adventures of Cal.E and T as they travel through time trying to get to the Cat Olympics by this weekend, right here on Cal.E.’s Korner.
