C.: Hi, d.c. What are you doing right now?
d.: I’m looking at these requests from the inmates to be seen by the medical staff.
C.: Did you see anything interesting?
d. I did. One of the inmates said that he lost a feeling. I didn’t know whether to send the request to S-I-K-E ( as one of the inmates spelled his request to see the mental health department) or to dental. But tell me, CAl.E., why are you calling me at work?
C.: Because I’m bored. Speaking of which, I went to your neighborhood yesterday to look at the Christmas lights. I went because your neighborhood is famous for its display of light this time of year.
d.: How did you like it?
C.: It was rather mundane, if you ask me.
d.: I know that it’s after Christmas, but most of my neighbors keep their lights up until after New Year’s Day. That’s why there are so many cars driving through my neighborhood. I often go all the way out to the highway just to avoid the slow traffic looking at lights. It adds a couple of miles to my drive, but it’s worth it, because it doesn’t take any longer to get home, and it’s less frustrating. Is that why you didn’t enjoy the light show, Cal.E.? Was the traffic too heavy?
C.: No, actually, the traffic was rather light. I just didn’t see anything interesting.
d.: That’s odd. I forgot about the traffic and drove through the neighborhood last night after I got off work. Maybe you didn’t enjoy the lights because you're a cat from another planet, and you didn’t understand the meanings of the displays…
C.: No, I understood them fine, the ones that I could see.
d.: Did you go after everyone had turned the lights off and gone to bed? Most people leave their lights on all night, though. A lot of them are still on when I drive to work in the early morning. I find them quite enjoyable, actually.
C.: Well, you might enjoy them, but I didn’t. I couldn’t see anything. We decided to beat the traffic and go early.
d.: How early?
C.: About three in the afternoon. There was no traffic, but the light show wasn’t very good.
d.: So, you went to see Christmas lights after Chrstmas in the broad daylight?
C.: Yes, why?
d.: That’s all the time we have for today, folks, please join us tomorrow for another episode of Cal.E.’s Corner.
