C.: Why did you put another asterisk at the beginning of the blog, d.c? We usually just print one of our pictures at the top of the blog.
d.: That’s correct, but I used the asterisk yesterday, and I want to continue with some more information on the subjects we discussed yesterday. I need to make some corrections. We can’t discuss the game tonight, because it got rained out.
C.: What are the corrections, d.c.?
d.: Well, the ‘05 Astros didn’t win fifteen games in a row. Their longest winning streak was seven games. In fact, no Astro team has won more than twelve games in a row. That’s the first correction.
Secondly, Roger Maris’s single-season home run record isn’t the only thing some would want to put an asterisk by. Some wanted Hank Aaron’s record to bear an asterisk, since he played longer seasons than Babe Ruth did. Additionally, Rob (he is NOT a) Man,Fred said that he considered putting an asterisk by the Astors’ 2017 World Series victories, all the while trying to help hide the fact that the Yankees also got caught cheating. The Red Sox went on to win the World Series the next year, after being the first team to be singled out for electronic sign stealing. They then hired the man who was at the heart of the Astros’ controversy, Alex Cora as their manager, which led to them winning the World Series. Now, other players are pointing fingers at their former teams, accusing them of doing as the Astros, Red Sox, and Yankees did. Rob has yet to retract his statement that the sign-stealing scandal in Houston was the “worst scandal since the 1919 Black Sox Scandal.”
Rob totally ignored the steroid era, which has led such performers as the all-time home run king, Barry Bonds, from being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Neither he, nor 300-game winner Roger Clemens ever tested positive for steroids, but both have been shunned by the Hall of Fame voters because of their ties to that era. Rafael Palmeiro admitted, under oath, that he had help from pharmaceuticals to hit his 603 home runs.
Rob also ignored the fact that, after umpires were obligated to check pitchers for “foreign substances” last year (and Mike Fiers mysteriously retired from MLB), the overall batting averages of the MLB hitters increased.
Anyone paying attention knows that Rob (he is NOT a) Man,Fred is a mere puppet. There are more powerful people controlling the commissioner’s actions, I’m sure. He will not change his tune until he is told to do so by his superiors. If the Astros win the World Series, as they are heavy favorites to do, he and his cohorts on the east coast, as well as the L.A. Dodgers, will drag up 2017, trying to discredit this Astros team. It is jealousy over talent evaluation that leads to this.
The best young slugger in the Major Leagues, Yordan Alverez, was brought to the Astros for a song and a relief pitcher in a trade with the Dodgers. They claimed he didn’t have a defensive position. Alvarez, after his knees were surgically corrected, has outrun two relay throws this postseason to beat out double plays. After Alvarez got on base, Alex Bregman brought him home both times. Additionally, Alvarez has been clocked at 92 mph throwing the baseball in from left field to home plate. The Phillies know better than to run on his arm. All he needs is some experience to play the outfield adequately, even if he will never be a match for the Astros gold glove-caliber right fielder Kyle Tucker in the outfield.
That’s all for today, folks. Please join us tomorrow for another episode of
