C.: d.c., I have a problem. I hope you can help me.
d.: What is it, Cal.E.? I will help you any way I can, since you are my best friend.
C.: Well, Mom and Dad's internet is down. The supplier's preferred form of communication is email. Obviously, I cannot email them from Mom and Dad's house. I thought that I could email the supplier from work, but I cannot access my work email. What is going on?
d.: Our work email is down. Didn't you get the email? The state sent it through our work email.
C.:???; How do you know that, since your email is also obviously down. There is no way to read our work emails, because we cannot access our work email anywhere but at work.
d.: I was here when the I. T. guy came to my unit. He told me that our email would be down until he could get to every unit and fix the problem..
C.: How long is that going to take?
d.: Considering that his main mode of transportation is a bicycle, it may take a while.
C.: doesn't the state pay him enough money to buy a car?
d.: Yes, but he does not want to contribute to global warming by emitting a greenhouse gas. Pollution and carbon dioxide are the main offenders, according to him.
C.: How is one person going to make a difference in global warming? And how is a carbon-based being going to keep from emitting carbon dioxide?!
d.: He says that every little bit helps. He also plants trees in green spaces during his free time. He says that will help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, since trees convert CO2 to oxygen.
C.: When would that be?
d.: I think it is when he is riding his bike between units. Our units are only one mile apart. He should be at your unit by now, even if he had to walk there!
C.: He is NOT here yet! AND I need to send this email. If I do not get it to the supplier by noon, it will take another day to fix the problem, and I need the internet to do my paperwork at home after my shift ends. I do not have time to do it at work, since I am training my kittens to do my old job. I would use my phone, but I do not have cellular data on this phone. I must use the facility's wifi, and it has firewalls that prevent most of the emails that I would like to send from going out. If I don't get this email out by noon, my paperwork will be out of compliance. What am I going to do, d.c.?
d,: It sounds like a perplexing dilemma without an immediate answer.
C.: (heavy sigh) Thanks, d.c. You have been a LOT of help!
