C.: Oh, there you are, d.c. I have been looking all over for you. I thought you said that you wanted to eat lunch with me. What happened?
d.: I didn’t have time to eat lunch, Cal.E. Not with you or anyone else. With so many nurses on vacation, I am taking up a lot of slack. I am beginning to drag, and I have not even started the second shift of this double shift day!
c.: I have just what you need, big fella. Drink some of my special beet juice and you will feel refreshed AND energetic!
d.: EW! This tuff tastes terrible! What is the green stuff in it? This is NOT just pure beet juice, is it?
C.: No, d.c. I added some of my own special blend to give me extra energy. It also makes the drink taste better to me, but I guess that human taste buds are different from a cat’s tastebuds. Just trust me, though. This will give you more energy and make you feel better.
d.: Well, I don’t feel anything yet. I must make my rounds now anyway. I will talk to you later, Cal.E.
C.: Okay, d.c. TTYL!
Twelve hours later
d.: Oh, there you are, Cal.E. I have been looking for you. I am about to get off my second shift, but I wanted to thank you for the beet juice today. I was able to make my rounds, do all my paperwork, and even had time to eat lunch on this shift. What IS in that stuff?
C.: I can’t tell you that, d.c. If I did, you could make your own, and I could not make a fortune by selling it. Would you like some more?
d.: Well, you said that everything in it was legal AND organically grown. I have a big day planned for tomorrow. It is my day off, but I plan to go to the gym, then paint a swath of our house by the back porch for Eudora to look at. She is trying to decide what color to paint the house. We can afford to do that now that she is making more money than she did before she retired. She will talk to a painter once she decides what color to paint the whole house. She just wants to look at different colors now that she is on semester break from her job as an adjunct professor at the local community college.
After I paint, I am going to wash all our vehicles. Afterward, I plan to make my lunches for the week and clean the kitchen, so I will need some extra energy. This beet juice should help with that!
C.: Did Eudora ask you to do all of that on your only day off for two weeks?!
d.: No, Cal.E. She didn’t ask me, but I want to. I want to thank her for the second honeymoon and buying me a new car. I want to be efficient, though, so I may need some extra help. I will also be tired from doing all my chores, so I may need some more “extra help” when I come back to work. Can you help me, please?
C.: Okay, d.c. I will give you enough to last you for one week, since you are my best friend…
d.: That does not look like enough for a week. There isn’t much in this canister.
C.: Just remember, this stuff is like the old Brylcream commercial. Remember how they said, “A little dab will do ya?” That is what you should remember while using this beet juice. PLEASE remember that.
d.: I will Cal.E. I know how to measure substances. I AM a nurse, after all! (But if a little is good, shouldn’t more be better?!)
To be continued tomorrow
