CAL. E.'s CORNER

PLUTO AND THE PRISON NURSE

Hello again. I have another interesting story about a shelter animal and his human. The pup in the picture is Pluto, or at least, a reasonable facsimile. He is a boxer. He is named Pluto because he was the e ninth puppy in his litter. His humans thought that there were only eight puppies in the litter because she did could not get the ninth pup out of a hole that he had fallen into before he even opened his eyes. His mom had her litter in her human’s pastureland. Pluto’s mom’s human was taking a walk in that pasture when he heard a pup crying for help. When he brought home the pup, the pup’s mom rejected him, because he did not smell like her or his littermates.

That is why his human dad fed him with a glove in which he made small holes in the fingers so that Pluto could suck milk through them. Pluto probably thought that he was a human baby because his human dad treated him like one, taking him everywhere. Dad even let him sleep in his bed. This is where the story gets sad.

Pluto’s human dad was a prison nurse. He had not been working at that job for very long when he was asked to sign some papers. His mentor had not come to work yet. Pluto’s dad signed the papers, which were not meant to be signed by someone with his designation.

When a fellow nurse found out what Pluto’s human had done, she reported him to the nursing board. Even though he did not know better, the nursing board said that it was a bad error. They suspended his license and said that he could not take care of even animals for two years. By that time, Pluto would be a grown dog, and the nurse worried that he would forget his human dad. So, Pluto’s human dad gave him up for adoption.

The people that adopted Pluto were not careful and Pluto got out of the front door of their house. Boxers are notorious for being very high-strung. Pluto ran away, and his new owners could not find him. Some neighbors caught Pluto and brought him to the pound, without looking for the owner. That is why he is here. His old dad is not allowed to keep him anymore, and his new humans do not want to be bothered with such a high-strung dog, so they did not come to look for him. Pluto and many dogs like him (as well as cats like me) need a permanent home. Visit your local animal shelter if you desire to cohabitate with a cool, sweet animal. That’s all for now.
