Cal.E.'s Korner

Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life End over end, neither left, nor the right Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life

Make me, oh, make me, Lord, more than I am Make a piece in your master game plan Free from the earthly temptation below I've got the will, Lord, if you've got the toe

Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life End over end, neither left, nor the right Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life

Bring on the brothers who've gone on before And all of the sisters who've knocked at your door All the departed, dear loved ones of mine And stick 'em up front in the offensive line

Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life End over end, neither left, nor the right Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life

Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life End over end, neither left, nor the right Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life

Yeah, dropkick me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life End over end, neither left, nor the right

C.: Hey, d.c, are you running, riding, swimming or writing today?

d.: Well, Cal.E., I’m not swimming, cycling or running today, but I am writing.

C.: What are you writing about?

d.: Actually, it’s more like rewriting. I got a response to one of the emails I sent out for my manuscript THE MAGRUDER MYSTERIES MURDER 8: THE INERT INGREDIENT. They want a lot of detail, though, so I’ve been working on that today.

C.: So, I guess that doesn’t leave much time for running, cycling or swimming does it?

d.: No, Cal.E. I don’t have time to cycle, swim or run (or to lift weights) today. In addition to the rewriting I’m doing, I must also make an important decision.

C.: About what you’re going to do with all the money you’ll get from an advancement for your manuscript?

d.: No, Cal.E., this is an independent publisher, and I don’t think they pay advances on manuscripts, especially not for new authors.

C.: What decision are you trying to make, then, d.c.?

d.: Well, I sent this email, along with some sample chapters about six weeks ago. That is the timeframe their website gave for an answer, but I sent out more emails earlier this week. I've already gotten a response from one wanting to see my manuscript and I don’t want to dropkick an opportunity to get this manuscript published.

C.: And the problem is?

d.: Well, according to the class I took a few months ago, an author always wants at least two offers to choose from, which makes a lot of sense to me. However, the first publisher wants me to sign an agreement stating that I won’t send my manuscript to anyone else but them until I give them an answer. It took them six weeks just to ask to see the manuscript, and the other publisher asked in less than three days. I don’t know anything about either publisher, and the information on the internet isn’t very helpful in either situation. I will say that the first publisher is one I specifically targeted after reading the blurbs on their website, but this is a hard decision.

C.: Yes it is, d.c. Maybe our readers can help. If anyone knows anything about Summer Solstice or Histria Publisher, please leave a comment on the website for d.c. and me to read.
