I wanted to be with you alone And talk about the weather But traditions I can trace against the child in your face Won't escape my attention
You keep your distance via the system of touch And gentle persuasion I'm lost in admiration, could I need you this much? Oh, you're wasting my time You're just, just, just wasting time
Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out until I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away
Throw it away, throw it away
I made a fire, and watching it burn Thought of your future With one foot in the past, now just how long will it last? Now, now, now, have you no ambitions?
My mother and my brothers used to breathing clean air And dreaming I'm a doctor It's hard to be a man when there's a gun in your hand Oh, I feel so
Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out until I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away
And this is my four leaf clover I'm on the line, one open mind This is my four leaf clover
In my mind's eye One little boy, one little man Funny how time flies

d.: Hi, Cal.E., what are you doing now that you’re home from work and not scheduled to work for the next couple of days?
C.: I’m working on my audition tape for The Weather Channel.
d.: Is The Weather Channel looking for correspondents from this area?
C.: Don’t you still watch that channel religiously every morning?
d.: No, Cal.E., not since I stopped working outside.
C.: Well, if you did, you would know that they’re asking for weather updates from different sources around the country. Since they won’t actually put my picture up on the screen, I reason I may have a good shot.
d.: Okay, let’s hear your blurb for this time of year in Houston.
C.: “IT’S HOT!!! Now, back to your regularly scheduled program.”
d.: Yes, that would probably work for morning, noon, and night this time of year in Southeast Texas, but what if there’s a storm in the Gulf of Mexico? What would you say then?
C.: “There’s a storm in the Gulf, and it could be headed our way. It may also go south of us, or possibly west. It may stay east of us, but if it decides to head north, we’re in real trouble. Now, back to your regularly scheduled program.”
d.: I see. Well, what about Spring and Fall and Winter, when the weather is a little more unpredictable?
C.: For the Fall: “It’s football weather folks.” That could mean anything from pouring rain to extreme heat, because it’s always football weather in Texas.
d.: What about the other two seasons?
C.: In the Spring, “There’s a forty percent chance of rain out of our cloudy skies today, and it may or may not clear off and be beautiful this afternoon.”
d.: And the Winter?
C.: “It will be around fifty degrees and with a warming trend in the afternoon.”
d.: What about the three days it really does get cold in Houston?
C.: I plan to hibernate on those three days. I’ll just say that my phone is frozen, so I won’t be able to report the weather on those days.
d.: It sounds like you have it all covered, Cal.E. Good luck with your audition, and we’ll all see how you did tomorrow, right here on Cal.E.’s Korner.
