C.: (Ring) Hello,

d.: Hey, Cal.E., it’s d.c. I’m taking a family trip this weekend, so I’ll need you to  write the blog by yourself for the next few days.

C.: Oh, do I have to? Why can’t someone else do it?

d.: Like who?

C.: Well….

d.: Sorry, Cal.E. I’ve got to go. If you miss this opportunity, I won’t be able to hear my favorite podcaster.

And this is KEEP/KING/KEEN Anahuac/Hamaker/Winnie bringing you live from the Tin Triangle, the138th most popular podcaster in northwestern corner of Southeast Texas, JOE GROAN!!

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh; or should I say ho, ho, ho, ho? The NBA won again last night when the Houston Rockets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers. Yes folks, the Rockets are still alive after staving off elimination for two straight games. I believe the Rockets will do it again tomorrow night. That will give the NBA another game to command money from advertisers and fans. These fans will pay thousands of dollars to sit at courtside if the games go back to L.A. Then, all bets are off. If Kenvin Durant, whom the Rockets gave up an inconsistent but talented guard in Jalen Green and the Rockets’  new Mr. Mean, Dillon Brooks, their enforcer on defense to get the thirty-seven- year- old all -time great, but here’s the thing. The Rockets acquired K.D. for series such as this one, a playoff series, to guide the young team through the rigors of playoff pressure. And where is the Rockets’ superstar? SITTING ON THE BENCH FOR THE LAST THREE GAMES!!

Injuries do happen, and K.D. has never been accused of “dogging it,” but he has a contusion on his ankle. Man up, Nancy! Study a tape of the New York Knicks courageous captain, Willis Reed circa 1970. Reed tore his right thigh muscle severely, took 200 c.c.s of cortisol and led his team to win the NBA championship in game seven of that year.

More recently, Micheal Jordan played a whole playoff game with “flu like symptoms,” All His Airness did was score thirty-eight points in forty-four minutes and scored the go-ahead three pointer with less than one minute to play.

I know, as well as Reed certainly did, that he was taking a chance on never being able to walk without a permanent limp ever again, but he did it for his teammates, as did M,J. That mentality just doesn’t exist anymore. For that reason, I’m betting that the Lakers will take this series in seven games, sending the Rockets home after the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year; those California teams have the Rockets cursed!

This has been Joe Groan, with one man’s (correct) opinion.
