Cal.E.'s Corner

Yesterday, when I was young

The taste of life was sweet

Like rain upon my tongue

I teased at life as if

It were a foolish game

The way an evening breeze

Would tease a candle flame

The thousand dreams I dreamed

The splendid things I planned

I always built to last

On weak and shifting sand

I lived by night and shunned

The naked light of day

And only now I see

How the years have ran away

Yesterday, when I was young

There were so many songs

That waited to be sung

So many wild pleasures

That lay in store for me

And so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see

I ran so fast that time

And youth at last ran out

I never stopped to think

What life was all about

And every conversation That I can recall

Concerns itself with me

And nothing else at all

Yesterday, the moon was blue

And every crazy day

Brought something new to do

And I used my magic age

As if it were a wand

And never saw the waste

And emptiness beyond

The game of love I played

With arrogance and pride

And every flame I lit

So quickly, quickly died

The friends I made all seemed

Somehow to drift away

And only I am left

On stage to end the play

Yesterday, when I was young

There were so many songs

That waited to be sung

So many wild pleasures

That lay in store for me

And so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see

There are so many songs in me that won't be sung

I feel the bitter taste

Of tears upon my tongue

And The time has come for me

To pay for yesterday

When I was young.

Yesterday, When I Was Young lyrics © Ed. Beuscher Arpege

C.: What are you doing, d.c.?

d.: I was just reminiscing about my former life. You’ve heard the details of my former life, but I know little to nothing about yours, Cal.E. Would you like to enlighten me?

C.: I would, but I must swear you to secrecy first.

d.: You have my word, Cal.E. I won’t share anything you tell me with anyone but our readers.

C.: I suppose that will suffice, d.c. I don’t think anyone on other planets reads our blog.

So, I was the queen of the Planet of the Talking Cats. I was married to the “head Cat,” (hehe), so that made me the queen of the planet, until “it” happened.

d.: What happened, Cal.E.?

C.: The event that Changed my life, and forced me to leave my home planet.

d.: What event was that?

C.: Well, I saw a dead rodent that was prepared to be eaten by royalty. I reasoned that it was mine, since I was the queen of the planet, so I ate it. Little did I know that the rodent had been prepared for my husband, the “Head Cat.” When he discovered that his dinner had been eaten, he went ballistic. He decreed that whoever ate his meal would meet with the executioner. But when he found out it was his wife, he softened. He merely banned me from the planet, as well as the galaxy where my home planet resides. That is how I came to Earth. My husband said that I could rule any corner of the universe, as long as it was not in his galaxy. So, I packed up my cat toys and headed for the Milky Way Galaxy. I must say that it is not that much different from the Mounds Galaxy. This galaxy does have one thing in common with one of our neighboring galaxies, though.

d.: What’s that Cal.E.?

C.: Much like the Almond Joy Galaxy, this galaxy seems to have its fair share of nuts! And most of them seem to think that they run the country, if not the whole planet!

d.: That’s all the time we have for today, folks. join us tomorrow for another episode of Cal.E.’s Corner.
