Cal.E.'s Corner

d.: (Ring) Cal.E. is calling me at four thirty in the morning on facetime. I wonder what she wants so early in the morning on work day for us both?

C.: Hey, d.c. I am scheduled to work today, but I did get up in time to read the newspaper first. You might want to read your favorite communist's, Jerome Solomon's column in The Houston Chronicle (Wednesday, April 27, 2022). It looks like you were right about the New York Yankees not wanting the commissioner's letter to them unsealed because it would reveal damning information about them using an electronic sign-stealing scheme.. (THAT should keep me from needing to work two jobs today. d.c. will have PLENTY to say about this. I will not need to aid him with his blog!). And this time, d.c., let people know where you REALLY stand. Don't be so wishy-washy with your opinions!d.: Thanks, Cal.E. I have a few minutes to read before I go to work. I will read that column now. (read, read, read)

Well, well, well. It seems that the self-righteous New York Yankees were caught using electronic surveillance equipment to steal the other team's signs BEFORE the Astros' scandal. For their transgressions, they were fined all of $100,000.00. I hope Rob (he is NOT a) Man,Fred had some change in his pocket. Billionaire owner Hal Steinbrenner probably does not carry that small of a domi

nation of money with him. Rob's excuse for this paltry fine was it was BEFORE he made his mandate about this. Hmm. It seems to me that electronic sign stealing has been illegal since the game's inception. Rob's excuse for his favorite team was that the Yankees only used a landline. He implied that it is NOT electronic signs stealing. I beg to differ with Mr. (he is NOT a) Man,Fred's opinion. As a high school student, I traveled about twenty-five miles to go to school, because there was no accredited school in my county. The girl I dated in high school lived in the town where I went to high school. My main form of communication with her (because she graduated a year before I did and went to a different school) was my parent's landline (yes, I am THAT old). As I was talking to her one stormy night, my parents urged me to say "goodbye" and hang up the phone. As I questioned my mother's request, I felt my hand start to tingle. It was thundering outside, accompanied by lightning. My parent's house was not well grounded. If someone was using the phone during a thunderstorm, it often resulted in that person receiving a minor shock. Why? Because there IS electricity running through a telephone landline. Therefore, using a landline from the dugout IS electronic sign stealing. Case closed. The Yankees, though, were then given credit for using their fine to aid victims of Hurricane Irma, a fierce storm that had occurred on the East Coast earlier in the year. The Yankee's then added $400,000 to the total. I guess that was so that people would see this as an altruistic gesture, not a mandated one. The supposed savant who was the ringleader of the Astros' scandal, Carlos Beltran, was playing for the Yankees when this occurred (in 2014 and 2015). Hmm. AND the bench coach who was also implicated in the Astros' electronic sign stealing scandal, Alex Cora, was hired by the Boston Red Sox as their manager right after the 2017 Major League Baseball season. Before Cora was hired, the Red Sox had been caught cheating TWICE. They used apple watches to do this. I know for a fact that these watches must be charged with ELECTRICITY on a regular basis. The Red Sox lost one (second round) draft pick. The Astros were caught once and received a five MILLION dollar fine, as well as first and second round draft choices for two years. The Astros' manager and GM were also suspended for a year, resulting in each losing his job. Neither was involved, by all accounts, in the sign stealing scandal. Rob (he is NOT a) Man,Fred says that the Red Sox and Yankees only cheated "a little bit." And my right shoulder and knee only have "a little bit" of arthritis, I suppose. THAT is why my right knee was replaced. There is no such thing as "a little bit" of arthritis, pregnancy, or electronic sign stealing! But, let me inject a bit of common sense into my rant. The real issue is not the Yankees, the Red Sox, or the Astros. The REAL issue is that Major League Baseball let its players watch their at bats in the replay room while a game was being played If a player did NOT notice on the tape that, when the catcher held down two fingers on his third set of signs, the pitcher threw a curveball EVERY TIME, he was NOT paying attention. To NOT use this information to one's advantage would border on stupidity! I wonder who's idea it was to allow the players to watch their at bats DURING a game. I could venture a guess. For once, BE a Man,Fred, and do the right thing. Admit your bias, fine the Yankees (and make a gag order for them as well, at least on this, if not ALL subjects), and the Red Sox, and apologize to the Astros. Then, resign your position and disappear for good! The world would be a better place, and Major League Baseball would be in better hands, whoever takes your position. I'm d.c. scot, with one man's (correct) opinion
