  • Post by Ify-babe » 16 Mar 2022, 10:21 [Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Beyond the Thirteenth Mile" by d.c. scot.] 4 out of 4 stars D.C. Scot tells his life story as an athlete in a triathlon using the name Jedidiah Harper. Beyond The Thirteenth Mile: The Ironman Chronicles is a book that is based on a journal the author kept while training for the race for almost 4 years. These are the thoughts of the author during a race called the Ironman Distance Triathlon. For those who don’t know what a triathlon is, a triathlon is a sports event in which contestants compete in swimming, cycling, and running in turn. A look at this definition would tell you that this game is a game of endurance, physical fitness, mental toughness, and strategizing. The author here (as Jedidiah) possesses these qualities even when faced with a chronic back problem, a surgically rebuilt knee, and being an asthmatic patient. In this way, Jedidiah proves here that impossibility is nothing when one is determined. Using a first-person narrative, the author shares his challenges and how he overcame them. He also linked the events of the race to his personal life and used it to teach life lessons. He made recommendations on how to make the race better and easier for both the organizers and the athletes. Scot used Bible verses to describe different stages of his life and also the instructions of a yogi. He also uses the life experiences of great sportsmen and women to drive home his point. This shows the intense work the author puts into the research of facts to be used in the book. I love the inspirational quotes given by the author. I love the humorous tone in which the author talks about his love life. I love the parts where the author gives advice based on his perspective and issues a disclaimer to that effect. It helps the reader to know whether to apply it or not be deceived. There is nothing to hate about the book, as it sets out to achieve only positive results in the lives of its readers. The book was also professionally edited, as I noticed no errors while reading. It is for these reasons that I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. There are no vulgar words in the book. I recommend this book to athletes because it teaches the values and qualities required of every outstanding athlete. Non-athletes can also learn one or two things from the experiences of Jedidiah in this book. Beyond the thirteenth mile: The Chronicles of an Ironman by D.C. Scot is a brilliant book. True life experiences of people who have made it despite their challenges teach us that nothing is truly impossible if we believe it, and this book is not an exception. ****** Beyond the Thirteenth Mile; The Iron Man Chronicles
