Cal.E.'s Corner

C.: YEEHA!!! The rodeo starts tomorrow, and I will have plenty of places to hide from "The Tuxedo" and Tom the Tabby at the Astrodome! With all the hoopla of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, "The Tuxedo" will NEVER be able to find me there! d.: The Astrodome might be a good place for you to hide from Tom and his henchman, but the rodeo has NOT been in the Astrodome for a LONG time! C.: It was the last time I saw it, what happened? d.: How long ago was that? C.: Let's see, carry the four, divide by twenty-six, and multiply by the square root of pi. Six years! d.: I do NOT think that the Rodeo was held in the Astrodome as recently as 2016. I do NOT know what you were watching, but it was NOT the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo! C.: That IS back when I was eating a lot of catnip! Maybe I am mistaken. When did they tear down the Astrodome? d.: They haven't...yet. Judge Roy Hofheinz, said that, as long as he was alive, the "Dome" would stand. C.: How old is the old codger now? d.: He is no longer living... C.: Then why is the Astrodome still standing? It is right in a prime area to build a parking lot. It would be better to tear down an old building that has no purpose than to close down AstroWorld and make a parking lot out of the land it is on! That place is a LOT of fun! d.: They DID tear down AstroWorld...to build a parking lot for Reliant Stadium (or whatever it is being called now): Home of the Texans, as well as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. C.: I don't understand. The judge said that the rodeo would always be held at the Astrodome. It was his way of giving it a purpose, and making sure that it still existed. If they tore down AstroWorld to build a parking lot for Reliant Stadium. Why is the Astrodome still standing, if the rodeo is not still held there. d.: It's...complicated. The judge's son said HE would make sure that the Astrodome still stood in honor of his dad. C.: Is HE a judge, too? d.: No, he is a lawyer. Judge Hofeinz was the mayor of Houston C.: Oh, I did my math wrong. It was aught two when I saw the rodeo in the dome. d.: THAT would make more sense. The dome was closed in 2008. They still heldo the rodeo there until Reliant Stadium opened in 2002. C.: So, this judge guy, he had a lot of influence on what happened in Houston? d.: Yes, he was the mayor of Houston... C.: When the 'Dome was built, so... d.: No, just an influential figure in the sports world by then C.: Then why did they always refer to him as "Judge'', or "The Judge"? EVERYONE who lives in and around Houston for any length of time knows who one is talking about when s/he says ''The Judge." d.: True. I did not move to Houston until I graduated from college, and I quickly learned who "The Judge'' was. C.: Why IS he referred to as Judge? d.: He was a county judge at one time... C.: Oh, like Lina Hidalgo! NOW I understand! He was a czar, then. THAT is why his family is so important! d.: No, neither of the judges had as much power as you would think... C.: ??? d.: You are right, Cal.E. They probably both overstepped their bounds every now and then, under the pretense of doing it for the "greater good." (SMH) Kind of like "Triple T." Speaking of which, isn't THAT "The Tuxedo"? C.: YES! YIKES! I must go...NOW! TTYL, d.c d.: Yes, Cal.E. I will talk to you later, IF you survive!
