AN OVERVIEW OF THE MAGRUDER MYSTERIES SERIES

Updated: Oct 12, 2021

This series has been called a “mind-boggling mental exercise in matching members of a menage to the proper people.” The author, it seems at times, is trying to connect everyone in the world and trace him or her back to Adam and Eve (or, at least, Noah and his wife. You may need a whiteboard to connect all the dots). One hint that I will give about this series is that, if the first and last names of a character are given, the reader will see this character again. This is an important character to the overall storyline, which spans all five books.

The first book, Precision; The Original Magruder Mystery along with its sister book, Reports from South America, and The Legend of the Island of Pishon; The Sequel to Precision tell details of the murder of the main character in the first book. It is told through the eyes of one of the minor characters in the first book who is the lead character in the second book. Do NOT try to read and understand the second book without first reading the first book.

The third and fourth books give details about a different mystery. The most interesting parts of these books, though, are the backstories given of three ancillary characters: the noble Jack Moore, the mysterious “Niko” and the insanely sinister “Taylor.”

The fifth book is the story of first-grade detective Jay Magruder’s life. It explains how and why Jay Magruder decided to become a police detective and the reason for his devotion to his job. Other ancillary characters become more and more important to the main storylines as the stories progress.

So, readers, sit back, get out your whiteboard, try to connect all the dots, and enjoy this mesmerizing, mentally stimulating mystery series.
