Jay answered his phone on the third ring. He was so happy (for the first time since his divorce) that he had overslept. He reasoned that his employer may be calling him to come into work early. He struggled to get out of bed as he answered the phone. He was pleasantly surprised to learn that the caller was the beautiful woman whose house he had guarded the night before. Jay was mesmerized by Juliet’s voice. Her voice was as graceful and almost as pleasant to hear as Juliet was to look at. He was shocked at the invitation that resulted from the phone call, though.
“Jay, how are you? I hope that I didn’t wake you. I thought that you should be awake by now. If not, I apologize…. You said that you grew up here. Would you mind taking me out and showing me the town?”
It took Jay a minute to realize that he was not still dreaming. The beautiful ballet dancer wanted a date with a cop? Jay could not believe his ears. He had one problem, though. “I would like nothing better than to do that, Juliet. However, I work until midnight tonight. The town will be closed down by then. May I take a rain check, though? I have some comp. time that I can use….”
“That’s okay, Jay. Just come by my house when you get off of work. We do NOT need to go out to have a good time. Please call me first, though. I want to make sure that I am opening the door for a gentleman, not a criminal. I will look forward to hearing from you soon. Have a good evening at work.” Juliet hung the phone up, leaving Jay with wild thoughts in his imagination about what the night would hold for him. His wildest dreams, though, could not compare to what he was about to experience.
