Cal.E.'s Korner

I've been lonely, I've been waiting for you

I'm pretending and that's all I can do

The love I'm sending

Ain't making it through to your heart

You've been hiding never letting it show

Always trying to keep it under control

You got it down and you're well

On the way to the top but there's something that you forgot

What about love, don't you want someone to care about you

What about love, don't let it slip away

What about love I only want to share it with you

You might need it some day

I can't tell you what you're feeling inside

I can't sell you what you don't want to buy

Some thing's missing and you got to

Look back on your life you know something here just ain't right

What about love, don't you want someone to care about you

What about love, don't let it slip away

What about love

I only want to share it with you

What about love, don't you want someone to care about you

What about love, don't let it slip away

What about love

I only want to share it with you

C.: I’m scheduled to work at The Kennel tonight and that workout d.c. gave me to do today has raised my heart rate, and I need to get some sleep before I go to work. d.c.’s nursing diagnosis would probably be: insomnia related to an elevated heart rate secondary to today's workout for the Cat Skills Games.

That is a bit unusual- a cat with insomnia- but how many cats have jobs that they get paid for? And how many cats do anything constructive, besides grooming themselves all day? I need to get some sleep before I go to work, so I’ll make my brain tired while my pulse rate drops by asking myself some rhetorical questions with no ready answers like: “If Mr. Spock, Captain Kirk and the rest of the crew on Star Trek boldly went where no man has ever dared go before, had women been there before? What about dogs and cats? Or horses and pigs? Elephants and zebras, perhaps? Also, we are told that the universe is endless. Is that true, or is it just so big that no one has ever been able to find the end of it? Or, perhaps someone or something did find the end of the universe, and disappeared into oblivion before they could relay the message to anyone else.

“Also, if one has multiple personalities, when referring to him or herself in the third person, does s/he still refer to him or herself as one? And, why are there positive and negative connotations attached to certain numbers? d.c.’s favorite number is thirteen, but many superstitious people believe that this number is bad luck. However, the Chinese believe that anything with the number eight attached to it is lucky. So, at the Chinese horse racing tracks, is every horse in every race assigned the number eight to encourage more betting? And where, exactly, did these superstitions begin? d.c. says that the number thirteen (however much that is) is called a “Baker’s Dozen” because that was the profit margin for a baker on twelve loaves of bread in the middle ages: one loaf. And why does that word mean both a portion of food and to do things slowly? Do people work more slowly after eating a loaf of bread?

“And why are there three different words that sound the same? Humans, in their language, have these three words that sound the same but have three different meanings that aren’t there in Catonese. That’s because they’re crazy!

“ And do rhetorical questions really have no logical answer, or are we just too lazy to answer them?

And to whom do we owe thanks for giving my favorite number, two, three different meanings and three different spellings? It’s too confusing!

“And what about love? That word can be used for many things. It can mean that one is extremely fond of someone else as a friend, family member, or a companion for life or a long (or short) period of time, but it can also mean that a human really likes a food, an object, or a circumstance, such as the weather they are having.

“And why does an irrational number multiplied by another irrational number equal a rational number? Does that mean that two irrational people make one rational person?

“And why, if Texas has the second highest land area by square footage and the second highest population in the union, doesn’t that state have the most electoral college votes?

“And finally and most puzzling of all, ‘Why’?”
