C.: HAPPY NEW YEAR, d.c, and my dear readers!!!! Man, did I have fun last night!
d.: Hi, Cal.E. Why are YOU so happy? You are NOT gambling on football again, are you?C.: Oh, perish the thought, d.c. d.: Then why did Tom the Tabby just bring you all that money?
C.: I put a grand on Georgia, and another 2 thou on 'Bama. I bet that each team would cover the spread in the college football playoffs... d.: I thought you said you weren't gambling on football. C.: I'm not GAMBLING, d.c Putting money on an SEC team in the College Football Playoffs is like printing money! CFP really stands for Charade for Pay. It is the annual event that entails the SEC inviting other teams from other conferences to come to their party. It helps the SEC teams get more time to practice for the next year. It also helps make money for both the SEC and College football, as well as the network that picks up the contract to air the games. This year, it is ESPN. d.: What about Clemson winning two national championships recently? C.: I would NOT have bet against Clemson. Their coach, Dabo Swinney was taught the ropes of coaching by Nick Saban when he played football at Alabama. Saban is the best coach since Bear Bryant, the greatest college football coach of all time. Saban was not forced to retire like The Bear was, though, so he has one more national championship. Alabama no longer has a mandatory retirement age. As I said, putting money on 'Bama (or most SEC West teams) to win the CFP championship is not really gambling. Besides, I expect Clemson to join the SEC in the near future like Oklahoma and Texas will in this decade. All of the best college football programs want to be in the SEC. THAT really stands for Some Excellent Cra... d.: Okay, Cal.E. I get it. The SEC is the best conference in the nation, according to most experts. Why does the SEC have a losing record in bowls games this year, then? And If Clemson joins the SEC, won't that create an imbalance with 17 teams, an odd number? C.: I think the SEC is doing poorly this year for two reasons. The most obvious is that the games do not mean anything, except the playoff games. That means the best players, who are draft-eligible, will not play in the bowl games for fear of getting hurt. Peruse any NFL roster and see how many players on the roster played in the SEC. I would wager that the "baby NFL," (The SEC West) has more players than any other conference on NFL rosters. It is like a AAA farm league for the NFL. The next stop is "The League." That leads to the second reason the SEC is doing poorly. The teams beat each other up during the season. They are tired and injured by the bowl season. Did you know that every team from the SEC West was invited to play in a college bowl game? d.: I did. But what about Clemson and the SEC? C.: It will not be just Clemson. I look for one to three other teams from the ACC to jump to the SEC, giving it eighteen to twenty teams, making nine to ten teams apiece for the SCE Eas and the SEC West. Maybe then, Missouri can go to the West, where they belong.
That should happen by 2030. By then every college team will want to join the best conference in college football. The SEC championship game might as well be the CFP championship, just like now! d.: You sure know a lot about football, for a cat! C.: I learned from the best, d.c. Maybe I should write a tip sheet for the NFL playoffs. I could call it Cal.E.'s choices... d.: Say goodnight, Cal.E. C.: Goodnight, Cal.E.
