All my rowdy friends have settled down And it seems to be more in the laid-back songs Nobody wants to get drunk and get loud Everybody just wants to go back home I myself have seen my wilder days And I have seen my name at the top of the page But I need to find a friend just to run around
But nobody wants to get high on the town And all my rowdy friends have settled down
And I think I know what my father meant When he sang about a "Lost Highway" And old George Jones, I'm glad to see he's finally getting straight And Waylon's staying home and loving Jessi more these days And nobody wants to get drunk and get loud And all my rowdy friends have settled down
And the hangovers hurt more than they used to And corn bread and ice tea took the place of pills and 90-proof And it seems like none of us do things quite like we used to do
And nobody wants to get high on the town And all my rowdy friends have settled down
Yeah, I think I know what my father meant When he sang about the "Lost Highway" And Johnny Cash don't act like he did back in '68 And Kris, he is a movie star, and he's moved off to L.A. And nobody wants to get drunk and get loud And all my rowdy friends have settled down
Yeah, me and my rowdy friends done rowdied on down

d.: Well, playing a little Hank, Jr. in the background while I clean up the mess that Horace, Cal.E., and I made while watching the Astros game will make it go faster. What a game, though. The Astros and Mariners basically played a doubleheader before Jeremy Pena hit that solo home run in the top of the eighteenth inning! No score for seventeen innings. Wow!
We didn’t even get a chance to watch mine and Horace’s alma maters play each other in football because of the length of the game and the fact that Horace, Cal.E., and I all wanted to see the end of the Yankees Guardians game. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but ‘go Yankees (at least, today).’ The longer that series goes on, the more the winning team will use up its pitching, and our pitching staff will have longer to rest… Eudora, you’re home early!
Eudora: Yes,
d.c., I just couldn’t wait to see you, so I got on the early flight instead of the late one. My dad seems to be doing well, and you know my mother; I think she will outlive all of us.
Let me help you clean up so that we can both enjoy this purchase you made in my absence!
d.: So, you aren’t mad that I bought a seventy-inch plasma TV with surround sound while you were out of town? Then why are you gritting your teeth?
E.: No, d.c. I just am a little of sorts after a rough flight. My back is killing me!
The TV was on sale, and we were going to need it anyway, eventually. You got a good price for it, and the color and sound are incredible. Now, let me go make some snacks while you go get in the shower. You worked hard cleaning up the mess that you and your friends made last night.
d.: ???!!! Okay, I’ll do that.
E.: Now, come sit down and watch “Real Housewives of Peoria” with me. It will look almost lifelike on this enormous screen and the audio should be incredible with surround sound!
d.: Well, I hate to say this, Eudora, but Horace and I were planning on watching our alma maters play each other in football. We missed that game yesterday, because the Astros-Mariners game went into (a lot of) extra innings. We were all too tired from rooting for the Astros to watch another game last night.
I avoided reading the newspaper or going online all day so that I wouldn’t know the score. Horace and I were going to watch it on the big screen. I recorded the game last night so that we could watch it then, but the Astros’ game went on too long. Cal.E., Horace, and I were all tired by the time it was over.
E.: Well, that 13” TV in our bedroom still works fine. Invite Cal.E and Hortense, too. The girls can watch the large screen, and you and Horace can use the TV in the bedroom. Everyone gets what they want that way.
d.:(Not quite), but I have been able to enjoy this TV all weekend while you were away, so, I guess that’s fair. I’ll call Horace and Cal.E. and invite Hortense, too. You girls can have the large screen tonight. Share and share alike.
E.:(We’ll see about that). Hurry, dear, the show starts in half an hour!
