C.: d.c., I thought about what you said yesterday. I want to tell you what I decided to do after considering our conversation.
d.: Okay, Cal.E. I could use some cheering up now. Go ahead.
C.: To begin with, I called my ex-husband Tom and told him that my kitten support would not be coming through the D.A. this month. That is because I wrote a personal check to him and put it in an envelope along with a handwritten letter of apology. I told him that I was sorry that I left him with all our kittens to support and take care of by himself. I offered to take the kittens every summer. My idea is that I will take them to The Kennel to work with me. The Kennel is looking for some new workers to replace me since I have been promoted, and my kittens need to learn to have a good work ethic. It’s a win-win situation.
Also, I thought about what you said. I am a cat who has a roof over my head and does not need to buy my own food. My only expense is catnip, which I don’t really need. I will pay my kitten support to Tom, and the rest of my paycheck I will send to Uvalde to help with funeral expenses and to help buy meals for the children and teacher’s families there that were affected by the school shooting. You inspired me to do that when you sent one-half of your royalties check for “Precision; A Crime of Passion” to help people in The Ukraine with their day-to-day expenses. This way, I will be able to give up catnip and help others who really need help. It is a good situation all the way around!
d.: WOW, Cal.E.! Now, you have inspired me! To follow your lead, I will send all the royalties from my book sales to help the families in Uvalde from now until July second of this year. Together, maybe the two of us really CAN make a difference!
C.: Speaking of that, I need to add one more thing to my list. I asked the other two cats that live with Mom and Dad to join me in negotiating a truce with Buddy Bones. No more poisonous food or tricks will I feed him or play on him. Enough is enough. The events of the last two weeks or so have taught me that it is time for us all to try to work together and try to get along. We need a change. I know that what I am offering to do are only small, baby steps, but, if we all work together, maybe we will help change what has been happening for far too long.
d.: Well said, Cal.E. I just don’t know what we will talk about once you stop playing jokes on Buddy Bones!
C.: Oh, I am sure that we will think of SOMETHING to talk about!
