d.: When I came to work last night, Cal.E. was not in her cell. I looked around her cell and found this note. It says:
C.: d.c. I was going to send the lyrics to a song you wrote to CNN magazine. I wanted everyone to know that you are NOT a ‘’one trick pony.” I found these lyrics to a song that you wrote for a woman you dated before you got married. She suffered from depression, so you wanted to cheer her up by writing her a song.
However, when the day shift kennel worker saw the note, she sent me to sike to be checked out. I am NOT suicidal, I just wanted others to see how well you wrote other things besides books. Will you please send this song to CNN for me? Thank you.
Your (best) friend,
Cal.E. Kat
d.: Here are the lyrics to the song that I wrote over twenty-five years ago:
THE WINTER
In the dead of the winter
In the middle of the night
When nothing about you
Is exactly right
When the grass won’t grow
And the sun won’t shine
The winds blows cold
The rain falls fine
The snow falls white
And the deer grow blind
Just remember as
The winter concludes
…
That springtime is a comin’ soon
When the grass grows green
And the flowers bloom
And the trees are swaying to the beat
Of an old… love tune.
Don’t you know that the wind blows
Cold in the wintertime?
The grass won’t grow
and the sun won’t shine
The snow falls white
And the deer grow blind
In the middle of this all, you’ll find
A loneliness deep down in your soul
That bleeds the strong
And cripples the bold
A sad love story
That can’t be told
Unless a soul is sold
Just remember that
Springtime is a comin’ soon
When the grass grows green
And the flowers bloom
The trees are swaying to the beat
Of an old; love tune
Just remember that
The springtime is a comin’ soon
When the grass grows green
And the flowers bloom
The life of all is about to resume
To a season devoid of gloom
Don’t you know that
Springtime is a comin’ soon
When the grass grow green
And the flowers bloom
The trees are swaying to the beat
Of an old… love tune
