d.: Hey, Cal.E., what are the three sweetest words someone with a heart can hear?

C.: “I love you?”

d.: I love you too, Cal.E., but that’s not it.
C.: Let’s see, “The Texans win?”

d.: No, they lost today in a snowstorm, but that’s not it either.

C.: Then, is it “Here’s your money”?
d.: That’s a good one, too, but that’s not quite it.
C.: Well, if it isn’t any of those things, d.c., what is it?
d.: Cal.E, the three best words one’s heart can hear are “Normal sinus rhythm.”
C.:????
d.: The heart is a complicated organ that supplies energy by pumping blood to the other organs. To do this effectively, the heart must stay in a regular rhythm. If it goes back and forth or stays in an irregular rhythm, then the patient may feel tired, confused, or worse.
C.: So, the human’s heart is his or her most important organ?
d.; That’s debatable. Three of the nurses on The Kennel’s night shift were discussing this. I said the lungs were the most important organ, because, in life-saving terms, we always check A. then B, the C. That’s airway, breathing, then circulation. Another nurse said it was the heart, presenting the argument I just presented. The most experienced nurse said it was the brain, because when your brain dies, you’re considered dead, even if your heart and lungs are still pumping air and blood (usually with the help of a machine).
C.: So, when the brain dies, the human body is out of time, just like we are for today, folks; so that’s the end of this cat ta(i)le.
