I used to smoke five packs of cigarettes a day
It was the hardest thing to put them away
I'd drink four or five bottles of wine
I kept a glass in my hand all the time
Breaking those habits was hard to do
But nothing compared to the changes that you put me through

C.: Hi, T., how’s it going?
T.: Let me turn this music down, although Bob Seger is my favorite singer. Can you just wait until this song is over to talk?
C.: Well, you have a recording on, so it seems to me that you could just push “pause” for a second…but I don't want to get into an argument the first day I’m home, so sure, I can wait a few minutes. We have the rest of our lives together, after all.
T.: Okay, the song’s over. What can I do for you?
C.: I know that we’ve been apart for a few weeks, but must you be so formal?
T.: Oh, sorry, I’ve been talking to some people about getting a job as a commentator for cat fighting.
C.: But, you’re loaded, why do you even need a job?
T.: I like to keep busy.
C.: You can keep busy with me, I’m your wife!
T.: Oh, yes. Well, I heard about you losing the election by one vote. That was a tough break. However, I have my personal trainer coming over, then I’m going to hit the speed bag and the heavy bag. After that, I’m going to meet a friend to play pickleball. Can we talk later?
C.: Yes, I suppose tomorrow morning would be fine.
T.: Well, I have a five-mile run planned, then stretching and some footwork exercises, but I can squeeze you in between 11:11 and 11:17.
C.: T., six minutes isn’t enough to catch up on the last six months! Can’t you spare a few more minutes for me?
T.: Well…If I skip lunch tomorrow and we talk while I’m skipping rope, we might have ten more minutes, but I’ll be famished by dinner time.
C.: Oh, that’s fine. Then we can go out and have a nice, romantic dinner and talk. That will be good!
T.: No, I can’t do that tomorrow night because I have a ‘working interview with CNN. Cats Need kNowledge wants me to call a cat fight to see how I do, and that’s tomorrow night.
If you really want to talk, I can pencil you in for next Thursday at lunch, but it must be a brief conversation because I have another interview lined up at one, and I won’t be through training and showering until twelve-thirty.
C.: I guess that must suffice, then (heavy sigh).
T.: Well, if you’d like to talk to someone, d.c. wants to talk to you since y’all haven’t touched base today.
C.: I’ll call him now. (Ring). He isn’t answering the phone, but his lights are on. Hmmm….I wonder ….
d.: That’s all the time we have for today, folks. Please join us tomorrow for another episode of Cal.E.’s Korner.
