Cal.E.'s Korner

C.: Hey, d.c. I think something is wrong with the intergalactic signal on my television /radio.

d.: Why do you say that?

C.: Well, I was trying to watch the World Series to see how the Astros were doing this year. None of the television stations were carrying the World Series, so I switched to my radio.

I tried WONT first, but, of course, that station wasn’t carrying it, so I switched to WILL. I thought that station would certainly be carrying the World Series on Earth, but that radio station didn’t have it, either, so I tried KISS, but that station was just playing a lot of Gene Simmons bands’ music, so I decided to go west of the Mississippi River to find it.

I first tried KENT, but that station didn’t carry the World Series, either. In desperation, I tuned in to KICK, and they were getting a kick out of game one of the World Series.

d.: It sounds like you found the answer to your problem, Cal.E.

C.: No, not really. Where are the Astros?

d.: At home, like 28 other Major League baseball teams.

C.: I don’t understand.

d.: The Astros lost in the first round. They didn’t even make it to the league championship series, much less the World Series this year.

C.: I thought that, when the Astros agreed to change leagues, they agreed to be bad for five or so years, and then they would get to be in the World Series or, at least the League Championship series each year.

d.: No, Cal.E., the Astros didn’t make a deal with the dev…I mean the baseball commissioner, Rob (he is NOT a) Man,Fred. It just seemed that way because they were such a good team. After a few down years, the Astros had a lot of high draft picks, and they picked wisely. To illustrate my point, there are many former Astros’ “Farm Hands” who were traded to other teams so that the Astros could acquire immediate help.

Josh Hader came up through the Astros’ minor league system, and he’s back with the team that drafted him. Now, there’s talk that the Astros will trade for Teoscar Hernandez. He won the Home Run Derby during the All-Star break, and he came up through the Astros’ minor league system. He’s now playing in the World Series for the L.A. Dodgers.

C.: Who are the Dodgers playing?

d.: (Groan). The New Your Yankees.

C.: Those are two of the three teams that you dislike the most in MLB. Which team do you want to win this year?

d.: That’s all the time we have for today, folks. Please join us tomorrow for another episode of Cal.E.’s Korner.
