Cal.E.'s Korner

C.: Well, D.C. is back in town and well  rested from his work weekend away. I suppose now I have time to do as I please, so I’ll just turn my phone to radio and listen to…

And now, ladies, gentlemen, nonbinary individuals and animals of all descriptions, KEEP/KEEN Cut-N-Soot/Conroe, Texas, presents, for your listening entertainment, the one-hundred-thirty-eighth ranked podcaster in the northwest corner of Southeast Texas, the one, the only (thank goodness) JOE GROAN!!!

Oh, oh, oh. Well, in sports news, we learn that the Houston Astros are in first place in the American League West division. In other news, we learn that water is still wet.

Okay, the Astros have had some significant injuries in the last two years, but, to quote a highly intelligent man (that would be me) you play the hand you’re dealt. Every team has its difficulties, and each team must deal with the roster they are able to put on the field.

Here’s a thought, injuries aren’t always a dreadful thing. In 2022, the Astros’ star pitcher and supposed starter on opening day, Justin Verlander, was on the disabled list with…I’m not sure. He wasn’t rehabbing from surgery, and he didn’t have any real problems with his arm. Any Major League pitcher who has been around for as many years as Verlander has will, undoubtably have some issues with his pitching arm, so the Astros used that to their advantage. They put Verlander on the DL to get extra rest for his arm. The result? A second World Series victory.

Now, to those of you who say 2017 shouldn’t count, let’s imagine that you’re batting against the greatest Astro pitcher of all time, Nolan Ryan. The bases are loaded; there are to men out and you have a 3-2 count on you in the ninth inning. Do you seriously think that no matter times you hear the trash can bang, Nolan Ryan will throw you a breaking ball? I think not, even though it may have been a good strategy. Any pitcher who has been clocked at 108 m.p.h. is not going to throw a change up or a curveball in this situation. He will go with his strongest pitch. The questions is “In what location?” Do trashcans banging tell you that? And let’s not forget, Dodger Nation, game seven was played on your field.

Perhaps Dodger Nation is still upset that their brilliant talent scouts let the best young hitter in the game be traded for a washed-up relief pitcher and fifty thousand dollars. Golly gee, what a bargain for me…said no Dodger fan EVER!!

Now, speaking of Yordan I predict that….(ring)

C.: I, hi, D. C. since you’re back in Houston, I was just listening to the Joe Groan Show…

D.: Cal.E., I was looking for our blog posts for the last few days and I have one question: WHERE ARE THEY?!!

C.: Um, well…Er. OH, coming Tucker! Well, that’s all the time we have for today, folks. That’s the end of this cat ta(i)le. Please join us next time for the next edition of Cal.E.’s Korner. GTG

This has been Joe Groan, with one man's (correct) opinion.
