We're the Houston Astros. Houston Astros number one!
.C.: d.c., did you go to the Astros-Yankees game when three Astros pitchers no-hit their arch-rivals in their own stadium?
d.: No, Cal.E. My son and I went the night before, when Justin Verlander pitched a gem. I purchased the only two tickets left for the game. They were in the Audi Club.
C.: How much did that set you back?
d.: Put it this way; Eudora said happy anniversary, and Father’s Day, and birthday, and Merry Christmas… for the next three years! But it was a once in a lifetime experience. It was well worth the price, especially since the Astros won the game.
C.: Did you wear your Astros’ gear?
d.: I wore my throwback Nolan Ryan Jersey that I got as a birthday present from my oldest son.
C.: Did you catch a lot of grief? I have heard that New York Yankees’ fans are the most obnoxious in the world!
d.: New York is like almost any other large city or even small town. There are nice people, rude people, and misinformed ones. THOSE were the ones who were chanting how much they loved Jose Altuve as we boarded the subway to head back to our hotel. Make that how much they wanted to MAKE love to Altuve (use your imagination).
C.: What about Alex Bregman? He was the other person most associated with the 2017 trash can banging scene.
d.: No, not much was said about him. I guess he is not doing so well this year, so they are not worried about him. I do not blame the fans anyway, because they are more misinformed than anything.
C.: By whom?
d.: Their general manger, Brian Cashman. He is pointing fingers at the Astros, when it was an ex-Yankee who was identified as the ringleader of the trash can banging scheme, and Jose Altuve refused to use the system to his benefit. Carlos Beltran was a member of the New York Yankees from 2014-2016. Rob (he is NOT a) Man,Fred sent a SEALED letter to the Yankees’ organization warning them that, IF they continued to cheat, as they had been in 2015 AND 2016, he would need to penalize them more than the $10,000 he fined billionaire owner Hal Steinbrenner. Rob’s reasoning for outing the Astros was that they did it for more than one year, and after they had been warned. Are we to believe that the Yankees ceased and desisted all cheating after being warned, even though they had a workable system in place and are the commissioners’ obvious pet team? Is ANYONE THAT naive`? Most of the fans I encountered were making more of a joke than anything else with their chants, but some were serious about their self-righteousness (smh). Speaking of which, I guess that the three pitchers who no hit the Yankees were cheating somehow, even though the game was played in Yankees’ stadium!
C.: (Oh, no. d.c is riled up now! I must change the subject quickly, before this gets out of hand!) What are your plans for the rest of your vacation, d.c.?
d.: I am taking my sons deep sea fishing tomorrow. Maybe, if we are lucky, we may see a dolphin or two (or maybe something even more interesting than that!)
C.: That’s all the time we have for today folks. Tune in tomorrow, when we see how well d.c. and his sons did with catching my kittens and me our dinner!
