C.: Hi, d.c. I was just testing my phone. I tried to make an appointment with my vet, but got no answer. Maybe it is the vet's phone that is not working properly.
d.: No, Cal.E. Your vet's phone is fine. However, the vet that you go to is an employee of the state of Texas. It is a holiday for state employees in Texas today.
C.: Why?
d.: It is "Texas Independence Day." It is the day that Texas declared its independence from Mexico.
C.: That is good to know. I guess the banks will be closed and the mail will not be delivered, either, then.
d.: No, Cal.E. I think that the banks will open and the mail will run on schedule. It is just certain people who are off today.
C.: Like who? School teachers?
d.: No. My wife is a teacher. She went to work today.
C.: Cops and firefighters?
d.: No. They cannot give the cops and firefighters holidays off. It would cause chaos. They do get paid more for working on weekends and holidays, but they cannot take those days off if they are scheduled to work on those days.
C.; I wonder if Tom the Tabby and T"The Tuxedo" are taking the day off...
d.: I would NOT count on it, Cal.E. You still need to be careful. Those two are dangerous, and they do not appreciate being scammed. You need to find another cat to pull your tricks on , Cal.E. Before anyone gets hurt.
C.: I will keep that in mind, d.c. WHILE I am counting my money!
d.: Money does no good if you are not alive to spend it.
C.: I will enjoy it while I can. I DO have nine lives!
d.: Yes, but by my estimation, you have used all but one!
C.: One is all I need!
d.: Good luck with that. I think that "The Tuxedo is looking for you. I saw him looking under my bed. You did NOT try to hide there again, did you?
C.: GTG, d.c TTYL!
d.
